This historical, mostly dirt trail winds through some pretty epic scenery, making it a must-do for everyone visiting the area. The trail begins in Apache Junction. There are plenty of interesting stops in this area, like the Lost Dutchman State Park (with trails aplenty like the Siphon Draw to Flat Iron trail) and Goldfield Ghost Town. The trail also winds along three reservoir lakes, Canyon Lake, Apache Lake, and finally ending at Roosevelt Lake.

The start of the trail is paved and doesn’t turn into a dirt trail until milepost 213 at Tortilla Flat, an old mining camp now turned tourist attraction. Tortilla Flat was once a hotspot in the mid-1800s for prospectors hoping to find gold in the Superstition Mountains. Once the Roosevelt Dam was constructed in 1911, it turned into a tourist spot with visitors like Teddy Roosevelt, Clark Gable, and John Wayne stopping by.
